Maruti Suzuki eVitara: Performance Explained
The Maruti Suzuki eVitara offers two battery options, smooth electric performance and a claimed driving range of up to 543 km. Explore its power output, city and highway performance, charging options and efficiency.
The Maruti Suzuki eVitara is an all-electric SUV that aims to provide users with the convenience of petrol/diesel-free driving. It comes with a choice of two batteries – 49 kWh and 61 kWh – and various power levels and driving ranges. It is designed for easy acceleration, fuel efficient driving in the city and the ease of an electric-powered vehicle.
Battery and Power Output
This front-mounted electric motor eVitara comes with two battery options. The 49 kWh version has 143 horsepower and the 61 kWh version has 173 horsepower. They are identical in terms of torque output, which is 192.5 Nm, and transmission type, single-speed.
The electric motor, unlike a conventional petrol/diesel engine, provides power without the need for traditional gear changes. This enables the eVitara to accelerate smoothly and also makes driving in varying traffic conditions easier.
eVitara comes with a front-wheel drive system for the Indian specification version. It's designed to deliver quick power for normal driving, not just for high-speed acceleration.
City Driving Performance
The electric powertrain of the eVitara is ideal for urban driving. Its smooth power delivery helps when moving away from traffic signals, while the absence of conventional gear changes provides a seamless driving experience.
Low-speed manoeuvres can be more convenient when operating in crowded streets or parking areas when using light steering. Drivers have the option to select the driving capabilities of the vehicle to suit their needs.
Eco mode is more efficient, while Sports mode delivers a more dynamic driving feel. The actual amount of energy used will vary with traffic, speed and air conditioning consumption and driving style.
Highway Performance
Power the daily drive on the highway with the eVitara, the larger-battery version has a greater power output. It has an electric motor that produces torque without the use of traditional gears, which helps to provide a smooth and controlled acceleration.
Road conditions, load and driving style affect highway performance and ability to overtake. Generally, faster speeds will result in more battery energy being consumed, thus decreasing the range per charge.
If intercity driving is a common activity, drivers should plan out places to charge and confirm availability of chargers en route. Every battery is equipped with a built-in charger.
The eVitara has 2 battery options available, with different advertised driving ranges:
- 49 kWh battery: Up to 440 km
- 61 kWh battery: Up to 543 km
These are estimated ranges only and not guaranteed distances when driving at any time. Range may vary depending on speed, temperature, road conditions, driving style and climate control.
The 49 kWh electric car may be best for consumers with moderate daily driving needs and easy charging access. The 61kWh version has a longer claimed range and could be better for those who frequently travel longer distances.
Charging and Efficiency
The eVitara can be charged with AC or DC fast charging. The charging time will vary with the battery version, the output of the charger, battery temperature and the charging environment.
The 70 kW DC fast charger can fill the battery from 10% to 80% in around 45 minutes for the 61 kWh version, according to published spec, while for the 220 kWh variant, it takes around 60 minutes for the same level of charge from the same 70 kW fast charger. This is a sample charging time and not a guaranteed charging time.
Home charging may be convenient for daily use as it can be charged while parked. During longer trips, public fast chargers can be beneficial, but the availability of them and their charging speed depends on the location.
Final Verdict
The c features two battery choices, a seamless electric performance and a range of up to 543 km. Both the 49 kWh and the 61 kWh versions have a lower power output, but the 61 kWh version is claimed to be capable of a longer range than the 49 kWh version.
Its electric powertrain is great for regular city driving, and the bigger battery pack could be a target to appeal to customers who do longer trips. When selecting a variant, it is crucial to consider battery selection, charging accessibility, and projected real-world range.
