The Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Citroen Basalt are two answers to the design of SUVs. The Fronx comes in CNG and petrol variants and is a compact crossover, whereas the Basalt is a coupe-SUV variant that comes in petrol engines. Both provide options of manual and automatic transmission, but they have other different characteristics in terms of performance, cabin, and price.

Performance

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is available with two Petrol engines. It has a naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre petrol motor which generates approximately 91 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. It's known as a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic mechanical transmission (AMT). The CNG option, which is factory fitted, is also offered on the 1.2-litre engine and manual transmission.

The Fronx also has a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine producing approximately 101 PS and 148 Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The turbo-petrol version delivers more power than the non-turbo, naturally-aspirated engine, especially for acceleration and highway cruising.

The Citroen Basalt comes in two petrol engine selections of 1.2-litre. The natural aspirated version has around 83 PS and 115 Nm of torque, which is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission. The turbo-petrol engine makes about 111 PS and 190 Nm, in a 6-speed manual. The automatic version generates the same amount of power, but provides up to 205 Nm of torque and a six-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

Both the Fronx and the turbo-petrol automatic in the Basalt have petrol engines, but the Basalt's turbo-petrol automatic is more powerful, as it generates more torque. Customers can also get a CNG option for the Fronx.

Features: Safety and Comfort

Including a touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via wireless connectivity, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, LED headlamp lights, they come with a variety of features, depending on the variant. More pricey models include a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, cruise control and a head-up display.

The Fronx is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and hill-hold assist for safety. Availability of equipment may be different for variants.

The Citroen Basalt's infotainment system includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, while its 7-inch digital driver display offers information and controls. It also comes with automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and automatic rear-seat thigh support (depending on the variant), as well as wireless phone charging and a wireless Bluetooth system for connecting with other devices. The boot is 470 litre and offers some storage room for a family holiday.

The Basalt is standard with six airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist. It has also been given a four-star "Bharat NCAP" rating for adult and child occupant protection. Both Fronx and Basalt are used for safety equipment, and the extra convenience options vary according to the chosen variant.

Price

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has an approximate ex-showroom price range of ₹6.90 lakh to ₹12.03 lakh. Final price may vary depending on the variant, transmission and engine chosen. Petrol and CNG models are available for purchase based on the user's need.

The Citroen Basalt is offered in the market at a price of around ₹8.55 lakh to ₹13.89 lakh ex-showroom. Available in naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol variants, and manual and automatic transmissions as per variant. The prices are subject to change, please refer to the most up-to-date price list before ordering.
